Sugarcane in the Easy Morning

“Through playful lips made of yarn that fragile
Capricorn unraveled words like moths upon old scarves”

Bedhead. Bare face. I unexpectedly dug this pale pink sweater out of my dresser last night and felt compelled to style it sweetly. While it feels odd to present myself in any color that isn’t a shade of black, brown, or grey, it seems like a nice way to welcome the strange and slow transition into spring. I’m longing for the blossoming of flowers and fashion trends. In the meantime, I’m clinging to my bottle of Jasmine by Demeter to keep springtime memories alive. Especially with this windchill. I have a few little numbers stashed away in the back of my closet just waiting to be worn in warmer weather. I adore layering, but sometimes a piece just has to shine on its own, sans jacket. And so I’m counting down the days until I can throw on a mini dress and rock it without hassle. I have a few particular pieces in mind, and most of them are still attached to their price tags.

Surviving the Polar Vortex

ImageThis is a bit of a lifestyle post today, but it’s below zero in the Burgh, and I couldn’t be more frozen. I didn’t even know it could get this cold in Pennsylvania! Almost everything is closed due to the the polar vortex, so I’m spending some quality time at home with plenty of mini coconut donuts, chai tea, and blankets.  I could use a conversation, though, so feel free to chat with me on Twitter. I hope you’re keeping warm and cozy wherever you are in the world.Image

Coat: H&M Gloves: Target Earrings: Aldo Pants: Forever21 Boots: Delman Hat: H&M

Snow days are perfect excuses to dress like royalty in jewels and faux fur. Pittsburgh may be facing an “arctic blast”, but nothing will stop me from having stylish fun.

Sunday Vibes: It by Alexa Chung

I’m kind of the queen of lazy Sundays, rolling out of bed to the scent of my mom baking cinnamon rolls and spending most of the day in my oversized John Lennon t-shirt. I’ve never really been one for watching television, so I often find myself snuggling up with a stack of books and magazines instead. Before the end of the fall semester, my boyfriend surprised me with the signed edition of Alexa Chung’s highly anticipated book, It, but 21 credits and an internship didn’t give me much time to enjoy its contents. As winter break lingers on, I’ve been flying through the unopened books on my shelf and loving every second of it. Of course, my break wouldn’t be complete without some much-needed inspiration from my favorite model, television personality, and contributing British Vogue editor.
ImageIt by Alexa Chung is essentially a style scrapbook, complete with gorgeous photography, quirky doodles, and Chung’s thoughts on various celebrities and trends. ImageI’m sure that even those who lack a familiarity with Alexa Chung can find an appreciation for It and Chung’s down-to-earth personality. With topics ranging from love and awkward teenage years to fashion and entertainment, there really is something for everyone within the pages of this book. I especially love that Chung includes thoughtful lists of music and movie recommendations as well as explanations for her personal sources of inspiration.ImageNot only is It great for those who want to know more about Alexa Chung, but it’s a worthwhile read for any fashionista or blogger. It’s truly an inspiring collector’s item that would make a beautiful coffee table book in any lady’s apartment. Pick up your own copy here

Heavy Metals

Heavy Metals
I’ve always been a fan of metallic attire. Something about wearing shiny gold and silver shades just makes me feel so rock ‘n roll. Unfortunately, some people fail to realize that there are plenty of ways to wear this trend without looking like a flapper from The Great Gatsby. Don’t worry though- I’ve created this inspiration board to help guide you through the process! c:

Gwen Stefani for OPI

My dude just turned 21, leaving me in the dust with a beverage menu that consists of Shirley Temples and Italian sodas. But that’s ok because the highly anticipated Gwen Stefani OPI nail polish collaboration is happening!Image

Like most women, I’ve fallen in love with Gwen Stefani over the years. From her musical talent to her interesting sense of style, there’s no doubt (haha) that Ms. Stefani is an icon. She has been wildly successful in all of her endeavors since making the decision to fly solo, despite the never-ending pleads for the reunion of her old pop-ska group. Not only has she continued to make rad music, but she’s taken on the fast-paced world of fashion with her lines L.A.M.B. (an acronym for her first album, Love. Angel. Music. Baby.) and Harajuku Lovers. In addition to designing clothing and accessories, Stefani also has her own perfume line, Harajuku Lovers, which features a variety of scents called Love, Angel, Music, and Baby.

And now, the pregnant 44-year-old goddess and mother of two can say she has her own collection with OPI. This woman just can’t be stopped!

Shades: Hey Baby, I Sing In Color, True Stefani Fashion, Love. Angel. Music. Baby., and 4 In The Morning ($9)

I have to admit, I don’t really paint my nails that often, but between this collection and Demi Lovato’s The New Black, I think I’ll have to start!
